The book “A Look at Higher Education in Brazil” is a deep and detailed analysis of the Brazilian higher education system, conducted by the Working Group of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences between 2023 and 2024.
The work examines the main challenges faced by the country, starting with the need to expand and democratize access to higher education. It proposes as a viable solution a restructuring in the models of public institutions of higher education, including the creation of the Federal Colleges of Brazil, which will bring to the system, in addition to expansion, also the necessary diversity, agility, flexibility and mobility.
In addition, for the training of qualified human resources for scientific and technological innovation, the work proposes the creation of a new model of financing public higher education, of a temporary nature, with the Training Centers in Strategic Areas (CFAEs), focusing on the induction of an educational and scientific ecosystem that favors sustainable socioeconomic development and the reduction of social and regional inequalities.
Based on data and international experiences, the work presents practical solutions to modernize and expand higher education in Brazil, with a close look at the economic reality and specificities of the country. This work is intended for public policy makers, academics, educators and all those interested in the future of Brazilian higher education.
